About the Tantallon South Civic Association

In response to concerns raised by Tantallon South citizens, the Prince George’s County police department convened a meeting with residents at Harmony Hall in the spring of 1996.  From this meeting, more than 100 residents of Tantallon South agreed that it was necessary to reestablish the civic association and held the first meeting to organize what we now call the Tantallon South Civic Association.

During our initial year, we spent many or our meetings organizing and discussing problems in our community and strategizing ways to address those issues.  We were vigilant in our quest to free our community of unwelcomed activities that occurred.
We worked closely with the Prince George’s County Police, elected officials, and business owners.  Through our advocacy efforts we were able to get street lights repaired that had been broken years, lines painted on the streets, get funding for a neighborhood watch program and a community policing officer assigned to our community.  We were successful in sending a strong message that the Tantallon South Civic Association was here to stay.

Over the years, the association has held community forums, neighborhood walks, and even a parade in effort to get more people involved in our community.  We have called people to task on issues such as loitering and caring for their property and will continue to do so.  Today, while we are fewer in numbers, we still stand committed to keeping our community safe and up to standard.
