MINUTES of Tantallon South Civic Association
Meeting date: Thursday, May 13, 2010
Call to order: A meeting of the Tantallon South Civic Association was held in the library of the Potomac Landing Elementary School on Thursday May 13th, 2010. The meeting convened at 8:10p.m. President Tara Scott presiding.
Members in attendance: Barbara Akins, Earl Adams, Jr., Andrew and GloriaBarbee, Edris Benjamin, Anthony Harrison, Tara Scott, Henry and Bernidene Smith, Carol Williams.
Approval of minutes: Motion was made by Andrew Barbee, and seconded to approve the minutes of the March 11, 2010 meeting. Motion carried.
Officer’s Report:

Tara, President reported on a Neighborhood Watch Training session she and Robin attended. She shared information- Pre-National Night Out date July 17.Night Out 2010 is August 3rd. Shared information on many little known Prince Georges County ordinances- i.e. that there is a 72 hour limit on parking a car without being subject to a fine. (If anyone needs more info- she has a brochure with the ordinances).
- Carol, Treasurer reported – the account had $2,125.17.
State of Maryland Legislative Report – the 2010 session. Earl Adams Chief of Staff Lieutenant Governor Brown’s Office presented some of the successful legislation that the O’Malley-Brown administration passed in the recent legislative session.( Copies of the Restoring Fiscal Responsibility, Restoring Progress 2010 O’Malley-Brown Legislative Agenda are available from me). New business:
- Tara presented two Community Events that we might participate in. Fort Washington Baptist Church’s Community Day on July 17th and the Tantallon North Area Association Community Day on October 2nd, 2010.
- And sponsoring a Town Hall Meeting on or around September 9th. A few members suggested waiting until after the filing date to determine who is running before sending letters.
- IHHAAC – Indian Head Highway Area Action Council is a civic organization that Tara has contacted and she was asking the membership if they were interested in joining this organization. No decision was made.
Member concerns and discussions:
- A member asked how long a piece of legislation takes to pass. Mr. Adams said, about 6 months. Another member queried about the noise ordinance and whether the legislation can be changed. Tara asked about the I210 flyover project, a letter from Senator Muse states that is on hold. Mr. Adams concurred.
